I2EC Meeting on September 22, 2007

Dear I2EC/IEG member,

 

Our September monthly meeting will be held on Saturday (Sept. 22) from 10 am to 12:30 pm.at Tysons Regional Library. 

Lennie Ding , Speaker of our last monthly meeting, will continue to lead this month’s discussion.Our subjects are Self-directed IRAs, Mutual Funds, Managed Accounts and Hedge Funds

The following areas will be covered:

1)  How and when to establish self-directed IRA accounts , with which institutions, minimum requirements, rollovers, 10% penalty tax on early distribution, minimum required distribution (MRD) by age 70 1/5, and so on.
2) When and how to invest using mutual funds vs. ETFs, loaded and non-loaded funds, A-B-C shares, fee-based accounts
3) What is a managed account?  Who is qualified?  Minimum amount needed to open a managed account.  What are their benefits and are there obvious shortcomings?
4) A general introductory discussion on hedge funds — some common features.  Who are qualified and what are some of the risks. 

Also IEG investment return will be reported.

August Meeting: Different Aspects of Options Trading

Our August monthly meeting will be held on Saturday (Aug. 11) from 10 am to 12:30 pm.at Tysons Regional Library.Following up on the club’s recent presentation on Option Introduction, Lennie Ding (our long time club member,  an Option trader and Investment Adviser ) will lead the August 11 discussion. 

  The discussion will cover
a)  Application aspects of using options: for speculation, hedging, insurance ( i.e. to protect a long portfolio).
b)  When NOT to use options
c)  How to learn and what to look out when trading options and
d)  The common pitfalls     

As usual, IEG investment return will be reported.  In addition, our (all things but investment, :-< ) advisor, Bill Yen will report his just completed Las Vega trip (surveying those casinos recently built and other real estate investment opportunities) and possibly, a daring sight seeing to Chicken Ranch (no chicken out, please!   Just kidding, ;-> ) as well.    See you there!

I2EC July meeting - Topic: “Investing in Turbulent Times:Key to success!” by Yen Chan

     Our July monthly meeting will be held on Saturday (July 21) from 10:15 am to 12 pm at Tysons Regional Library.
     Yen Chan will be our speaker. She will reveal key to successful investing in Turbulent Times and show us how to achieve our financial goals and dreams.
She will go into one of the financial tools, Mutual funds and explain to us all the hidden charges, fees and costs. She will answer Investment questions in general and mutual funds in specific.
     Yen is a recognized contributor to the betterment of the financial health of Asian Americans of Greater Washington area through her insurance and financial services. Her financial column appears in the Asian Fortune, a community newspaper serving the Washington Metropolitan area.
